Controlling the prompt

  • Ctrl + c – Cancel command (stop running command and cancel typed command)
  • Ctrl + l – Clear the screen (better than typing clear to avoid polluting command history)
  • Ctrl + a – Go to beginning of line
  • Ctrl + e – Go to end of line
  • Ctrl + d – Delete till beginning of line
  • Ctrl + p – Move backwards through commands (command is queued up in the prompt)
  • Ctrl + r – Run search of previous commands
  • Ctrl + x -> Ctrl + e – Open the current command in default editor
